REPORT:
2010 Australian Boys’ Amateur champion Anthony Murdaca (SA) followed in the footsteps of World Number 7 Adam Scott by winning his second Australian Boys’ Amateur Championship at Pinjarra Golf Club, south of Perth.
Murdaca finished at 16-under par after rounds of 66-66-71-69 and becomes just the third player in history to win the title multiple times, joining Scott (1997/1998) and Kiwi Grant Waite (1982/1983) with multiple victories.
A member of The Grange Golf Club, Murdaca said he was delighted to win the title again after a close battle with Lucas Herbert (VIC).
“It feels great, feels amazing to be honest,” Murdaca said. “It was a pretty close one. Lucas and I were in a battle all day but I birdied the last to win.”
“I feel pretty privileged be in that company,” Murdaca said of the Adam Scott link. “I’ve been working on it for two years and my ball striking was a lot better this week and I really wanted to win another Junior title.”
Herbert fought Murdaca for most of the day but finished in second place at 13 under par. The young Victorian finished in a tie for second at the PGA Tour of Australasia’s Heritage Classic earlier this year.
Kevin Yuan (NSW) finished tied in third place at 8-under par after a final round 68 with Minwoo Lee (WA), brother of Minjee, who fired a 67 – the round of the day.
Ryan Ruffels and Harrison Traylen finished in a tie for fifth at 7-under par.
