Golf NSW High Performance Program 2016

The Golf NSW High Performance Program (HPP) identifies talented male and female golfers across the state and devlop them into athletes who are capable of winning major championships, breaking into the top 50 professional world rankings and who can win Olympic Gold Medals.

Golf NSW provides squad members with access to high quality coaching, training facilities and technology, sport science and medical professionals, interstate travel, and in-competition support.

Education

Golf NSW believes in the importance of education in a player's development. It is a requirement of the national program that all HP program participants have completed, or be in the process of completing secondary school.

Golf NSW High Performance Program Selection

Players are selected for all Golf NSW HP program levels based on their commitment to reaching their full potential on and off the golf course combined with their ability to succeed at national amateur, international amateur and professional level.

Selection Criteria

The criteria outlined below is used as a guide to select candidates for inclusion in the HPP. Although these are a general in nature, they are set out by Golf NSW in consultation with Golf Australia. The final decision on selection of successful candidates rests with the Golf NSW High Performance Committee and in consultation with HPP support staff.

The athlete’s current national ranking is applied at the time of application. Playing results and participation criteria are valid for 12 months from the time they are achieved.

General criteria (GC)

  • Australian Citizen.
  • Players are selected for all Golf NSW HP programs levels based on their dedication to the process of reaching their full potential on the golf course and their ability to have success at national and international amateur and professional level.
  • Participants must have or be in the process of completing secondary school.
  • Minimum standards must be maintained in order to hold a position in all Golf NSW HPP.
  • Athletes meeting performance criteria must be part of their state's HP program to be recognnised as a GA benchmarked athlete.

2017 Performance Criteria

Benchmark Athlete Tier 1

Players must meet two of the following criteria to gain selection:

  • Top 15 R&A World Ranking (men
  • Top 10 R&A World Ranking (women)
  • Top two Asia-Pacific Amateur (men)
  • Top four US Amateur Championship
  • Top Two British Amateur Championship
  • Top 15 Tier-one event on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia
  • Australian Amateur Champion
  • Winner of four national ranking events (men)
  • Winner of five national rnaking events (women)
  • Winner of a Tier-two event on the ISPS HAnda PGA Tour of Australasia

Players can be considered for inclusion in the HPP during the year if they meet the above criteria. Rankings must be maintained for minimum six weeks.

Benchmark Athlete - Tier 2 

Players must meet two oif the following to gain selection:

  • Top 30 R&A world ranking (men)
  • Top 20 R&A world ranking (women)
  • Top four Asia-Pacific Amateur (men)
  • Top eight US Amateur Championship
  • Top four British Amateur Championship
  • Top 30 Tier One Event on the ISPS Handa PGA Tour of Australasia
  • Australian Amateur Champion
  • Winner of three national ranking events (men)
  • Winner of four natiuonal rnaking events (women)
  • Top four IMG Junior Worlds ( Male athlete aged under 18)
  • Top two IMG Junior Worlds (Female  athlete aged under 18)
  • Top eight US Junior Championship (Male and female under 18)
  • Top 32 US Amateur Championship (Male and female under 18)
  • Britsh Boys/Girls Champion (under 18)
  • Top 16 British Amateur (Male and female under 18)
  • Top Two Australian Amateur Championship (Male and female under 18)
  • Australian Junior Champion  (Male and female under 18)
  • Winner of two open level national ranking events (Males under 18)
  • Winner of three open level natioanl rnaking events (Females under 18)
  • Winner of two Australian Junior rankin events not including the Australian Junior (Male and female under 18)

Athletes will be considered for inclusion in the HPP at any stagfe during the year if they meet the above criteria. Rankings must be maintained for minimum six weeks.

Athletes who do not meet the above criteria can be selected to train with the HPP by the Golf NSW High Performance Committee at any time.

There is no age limit on candidates wishing to apply for inclusion in the program.
