Robert Allenby had his first look at Stonecutters Ridge during today’s NSW Open Pro-Am and likes what he sees.

“It’s a nice course. For a Tour event there’s a lot of short holes, but it’s in great condition. The greens are great, you can’t ask for anything more.

The PGA Tour veteran is predicting a solid score will be needed to be in contention this week.

“I think with the class of the field here this week, if the weather is nice, it’s going to be anywhere between 15 and 20 under that will probably win.”

Allenby is making his first trip to the NSW Open in about 24 or 25 years and reminisced about playing the NSW Open as an amateur.

“I definitely played the NSW Open as an amateur. I played it a couple of times, but it has been a while since I played this tournament.”

Allenby is glad to be home and enjoying his golf at the moment. He’s happy with his form leading into the event and ready for a good result this week.

“It’s nice to be back here, being with family and friends.

“I played alright in Fiji. I didn’t make enough putts. Around here I’m hoping to play well. I feel like I’m hitting the ball well, so it’s just a matter of making a few more putts.

“Normally I hit the ball well, and If I make few putts I‘ll make a lot of birdies. That’s the name of my game.

From what I saw out there today, if I do get my putter going, I could shoot six or seven under most days. I hope that’s the case, but you don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself.

“I like the way it sets up, it sets up very nicely for me,” he smiled.
