Blake Windred - 2018 Avondale Amateur
2018 Avondale Amateur champion Blake Windred will return to defend his title

The 2019 Avondale Amateur tees off on Tuesday 29 January, with 168 of the best amateur golfers from around Australia taking part in the event, as well as a large number of international players making the trek down under.

The event, now well established as an Australian Amateur Ranking Event and World Amateur Golf Ranking Event, will be played over 72 holes stroke play. This year, entries have reached capacity with quality amateur players vying for a start in the four-day event.

Defending champion Blake Windred (The Australian) will be looking to go back-to-back after a solid performance in the Australian Amateur last week, bowing out in the quarter final.

He will have tough competition from fellow New South Welshman, Nathan Barbieri (Monash), who put up an incredible fight in the final, going down to Ireland's Conor Purcell on the 37th hole.

The English men’s national team are also making an appearance as well as players from Canada, New Zealand, Switzerland, Finland, France, and Indonesia.

In the women’s event, local Avondale hero Grace Kim will be among the favourites after recently earning gold at the 2018 Youth Olympic Games in Argentina, as well as her win at the Annika Sorenstam Invitational in New Zealand.

Stephanie Kyriacou (St Michael’s) is also among the favourites, after her recent victory at the Master of the Amateurs. The in-form duo of Rebecca Kay (Coolangatta Tweed) and Doey Choi (Concord) will also make an appearance.

The tournament begins on Tuesday 29 January. Spectators are welcome and with the newly renovated greens and the course in the best playing condition it has ever been, it will be a highlight for spectators and players alike with exceptional golf expected.
