Lachlan Barker from the Glenelg Golf Club & Amy Chu (The Australian GC, NSW) have been crowned the 2017 SA Junior Amateur Champions.

The Championship was conducted over 54 holes 9-10 January, with the first 36 holes held at Kooyonga on day one and final 18 holes on day two on the West Course at The Grange Golf Club.

Barker led by nine strokes after the first day, after tearing up the par 70 temporary blue course at Kooyonga with rounds of 66, 65 for a 36 hole 9-under total. Barker had 13 birdies to his name thru 36 holes and with the low rounds at Kooyonga, claimed the Kooyonga Summer Cup.

Heading into day two, Barker led Harrison Crowe from St Michaels in NSW, with Josh Greer (WA) and Mitch Varley (QLD) one shot further back at 1-over.

In the final round at The Grange Golf Club, Barker was unable to post a birdie carding a 2-over 74, but still finished with a 54-hole total of 216 (7-under) seven-strokes ahead of Crowe who closed with an even par round of 72, the equal low round of the day. Varley finished third on 217 with rounds of 71, 70, 76.

“Really happy with that, it’s my second last junior event so it’s really good to go out knowing that I have improved over the years. The way I played yesterday was really good for my confidence, it’s really set me up well for today, so I took a different approach just played it safe and got the job done. Really happy with the way I played the tournament.” Barker said.

In the Girl's Championship, Amy Chu (The Australian - NSW) set up her win with a superb second round four-under 68. Chu claimed the tournament by three strokes with rounds of 73,68,73 to finish ahead of Amelia Garvey (Royal Melbourne GC) 70,75,72 (217).

“I felt like I was playing well, I prepared well and I was happy with my short game which is what saved me the most.

“It was really good to win back to back, I won last week back home in a Jack Newton tournament and to win this it feels really good for golf in 2017” said Chu.

Best placed South Australian was Ella Adams (The Grange GC) who finished fourth.
