The Branxton golf community is digging deep for Ben Lott after the 39 year-old school teacher and avid golfer was diagnosed with stage four brain cancer.

Lott, married with two children aged three and one, is currently in Japan receiving chemotherapy for the disease.

Fundraising Committee member Mark Hale said they expect to raise $100,000 to assist with treatment and ongoing care for the popular fourth grade teacher from Rosary Park Primary School in Branxton.

“Will Callinan, the school principal, asked If we could organise something, so we are having a three-day fundraiser on the first weekend of November.”

The event, to be held on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of November, includes night golf on Friday, darts on the Saturday afternoon, and a three-person ambrose on Sunday at Branxton Golf Club.

On top of the funds raised from the event, Hale said that a number of local businesses and golf clubs from across the state had chipped in with swag to be auctioned off.

“There’s helicopter flights to the vineyards, tasting sessions at Brokenwood and Wynwood wineries, and there’s a golf and accomodation package from The Vintage,”

“We’ve had rounds of golf with carts and all sorts donated from golf clubs across NSW. We’ve got golf gear, signed footy jumpers, the works.”

In addition to the Golf weekend, Hale also mentioned the efforts of the Gundagai community, where Lott grew up.

“They’re holding a  huge cattle auction in Gundagai. Everyone down there has chipped-in. I reckon there could be over 100 cows and sheep donated,” he added.
