Defending champion Anthony Brunero is hopeful of a good showing at the 2017 Country Championships at Goulburn Golf Club next month.

The Golf Illawarra Representative has had a limited preparation leading into the event but isn’t one to shy away from the challenge.

“I haven't been playing as much as I should due to work commitments, and my wife is going through a complicated pregnancy.”

“I love getting away representing Golf Illawarra, there are a great bunch of blokes. I think we will give the teams event a good shake again this year too.”

The 2016 Country Championship was the Links Shellcove Golfer’s biggest win of his career. With the victory came a coveted place in last year’s NSW Open which was an experience Brunero isn’t going to forget in a hurry.

“I played terrible at the NSW Open, but it was an unreal experience with my brother on the bag.”

As for his strategy for this year’s event, Brunero intends to keep his mindset simple.

“I’ll have a go at everything and if it doesn’t go my way, I’m going to work on Monday.” he laughed.

“It could be my last represntative side for a while with a daughter due in October, so I’d love to go out with another title,” he smiled.

The NSW Country Championship will be held at Goulburn Golf Club on 12-13 August 2017.
