Harrison Crowe is all smiles after shooting a four under par 65

Sydneysider Harrison Crowe has taken a one-stroke lead at the Australian Boys Amateur Championship as second round play continues at Wollongong Golf Club.

In conditions ideal for scoring, the 15-year old carded a sensational four-under par 65 to sit at five-under par after 36 holes. Matching Crowe’s score in the morning half of the field was New Zealand’s Dominic Brettkelly and Queensland’s Mitchell Varley.

First round leaders Jones Comerford and Tom Parker have both dropped a shot early in their second round while New South Wales Jordie Garner remains at three-under par.

Crowe’s round included an impressive six birdies and two bogeys, with three of the birdies coming in his last six holes. The 2017 Tasmanian Junior Masters winner wasn’t expecting to go low but was quietly pleased with his morning’s effort.

“I felt good out there today, and I trusted my game.” Crowe grinned. ”I holed a long putt on the 15th, I gave myself a really good look at a birdie on the last, but it just slipped by, the late birdies helped.” he smiled.

Although not the lowest score Crowe has ever recorded, the youngster agreed it was one of his best in the circumstances.

“It’s a couple of shots of my lowest ever round, but it still feels pretty good.”

When questioned about his idol Rory McIlroy’s chances of winning the Masters which begins overnight, and his own, Crow smiled,

“I’d be rapt if I won this and Rory won the Masters the same week. that would be so cool.”
