Endycott set to power at the Porter

Avondale’s Harrison Endycott will headline a four strong NSW contingent at the 2017 Porter Cup which begins tonight at the Niagara Falls Country Club in New York.

Endycott, who was a one stroke winner in this event last year, feels his game is peaking at the right time. He has been in the United States for a little over a week preparing in Phoenix, and the Porter Cup will be his first hit out this campaign as he works towards the US Amateur Championship next month.

“I can’t wait. The course is the best I’ve seen and my game feels great.”

“The rough is pretty thick this year, which means patience and great iron play.”

“My game feels strong enough to definitely make putts and make some birdies, so if I stay patient, there's no reason why I can't make a few,” the defending champ said.

Alongside Endycott this week is his sometime regular caddie and good luck charm, Avondale club mate David Donnelly. The pair share a solid bond and know what is required to win.

“I’m glad Dave is over here. He’s one of the best three markers I have ever seen, and knows my game really well,” Endycott smiled.

Travis Smyth, Blake Windred and James Grierson are also in the field with Endycott, and all three are keen for the tournament to get underway.

The course is set up tough and it’s playing long,” Smyth said.”It feels similar to Riversdale when I won so it suits me.”

Like Endycott, Smyth spent a week in Phoenix preparing for this run of tournaments.

“I was fitted for new iron shafts last week and picked up some new metal woods as well. They are really nice, ” he smiled.
