Eric Apperly Shield starts with a bang

St. Michael's Harrison Crowe helped the Maroubra outfit grab a solid first round win

The 2017 Eric Apperly Shield has begun with a couple of first round upsets and Pymble, the defending Champions, dominating their opening match.

In pool one, Avondale caused the first upset of the season with a win against Castle Hill Country Club. Alexander Henderson was impressive with a 7&5 win for Avondale, while Christopher Fan proved too strong for Namchul Kim in the top match, winning 4&3.

A dominant St.Michael’s outfit accounted for Monash at home 5/1, with Luka Brucic Marco Nocera and Harrison Crowe all recording comfortable wins. The only Joy for Monash was Nathan Barbieri’s 3&1 result in the top match.

Pennant Hills had an easy win over The Lakes, 4 1/2 to 1 1/2, with Matthew Davidson the best for the HIlls team with a 5&4 win.

In pool two, defending Champions Pymble accounted for Long Reef at home 6/nil. Corey Jones led the way with a 7&5 win While James Conran and Joseph Trinder also recorded 6&4 results. The determined outfit from the Northern Suburbs has already marked themselves as the team to beat.

Concord was too strong for NSW winning 4 1/2 1 1/2. State Boys Team representative Joshua Gadd lead the way with a 5&4 win, while in the final match in the pool, Manly easily accounted for Liverpool with a 5/1 result. Best for Manly was Charlie Adare with a 6&5 victory.

Oatlands defeated Cronulla 4/2 at home in Pool three in a close result. Bradley Doherty proved the difference between the two teams with a 3&1 win in the top game of the contest.

Neighbours Bonnie Doon and The Australian fought out a 3-all draw. Ethan Chambers and Thomas Heaton had 6&5 and 6&4 wins respectively for the Rosebery outfit, while Boy’s State Team rep Jones Comerford was the best for the Doon winning 5&4.

Bankstown got their season off to a good start with a win against North Ryde, 4/2, with Jack Carmichael and Yihyeon Choi both winning 5&4.

Woolooware defeated Killara 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 at Killara, with Jared Brown impressing with an 8&7 win.

Stonecutters Ridge was too strong for Antill Park, winning 4 1/2 to 1 1/2. The Rios-Ceballos Brothers, Cameron (4&2), Andrew (4&3), and Douglas (6&5) all had good wins.

In the final pool four match, Cromer was too strong  for Cumberland, recording a 4 1/2 to 1 1/2 win. Jacob Schouw led the way for the Peninsula side with a 6&5 victory.
