Grenfell Golf Club’s Marianne Neill and Jan Myers are in for the thrill of a lifetime after winning the chance to Play 9 at The Australian Golf Club after the third round of the 2017 Emirates Australian Open.

The pair, who are good friends and who both own businesses in the small country town were delighted when told the news of their win.

“Jan taught me how to play golf, We are overwhelmed with the opportunity,” Ms Neill said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing for us.”

“We don’t get that many chances to play on a prestigious course such as The Australian, we’ll make the most of it,” she smiled.

Clubs across NSW were encouraged to run nine-hole competitions during October. 68 clubs registered, and at the end of the month, two were drawn; one from regional NSW, the other from metropolitan Sydney. From the selected two clubs, two players were drawn at random.

Joining Marianne and Jan will be Hurstville Golf Club’s John Craig and Peter Grieg.

“It’s going to be a privilege,” Hurstville’s John Craig said. “I’m most definitely looking forward to seeing how I fare on the same day and the same course as the top-liners.”

“A friend told me to prepare to spend a lot of time in the bunkers,” he laughed.

The lucky four will join another 20 golfers from across Australia who will get to play the back nine at the Australian Golf club at the completion of round three of this year’s Australian Open in a nine-hole individual Stableford competition.

“The players competing are young and old, male and female,” Andrew Robb, Manager-Game development at Golf NSW said. “ their handicaps range from three to 30. It should be a great afternoon.”
