Jimmy Gunn set to fire at Stonecutters

The scene is set for Scotland’s Jimmy Gunn to steal the show at Stonecutters Ridge in next month’s NSW Open.

The 36-year-old Scot has based himself in the US since 2007. He’s been a member of the Web.com Tour for the last couple of years, finishing the 2016 season in 69th on the money list which included two top 10 and five top 25 finishes, which was enough to ensure his full playing rights for 2017.

Gunn was taught to play by his grandfather and grew up caddying on the famous links of Royal Dornoch Golf Club. These days, he calls Phoenix Arizona his home.

He’s looking forward to the chance to mix it with the local stars on at the NSW Open.

“I’ve heard great things about the course from many the Aussie pros and wanted to come over to Australia to compete for a while now. I’ve heard so much great stuff from friends and watched it on TV. The courses look amazing,” he said.

Gunn’s best result on US soil was his tied 27th finish at the 2015 US Open at Chambers Bay. It was according to him his finest performance and also his first ever Major appearance.

“I met Cam Smith there. He also played great that week too, “ Gunn smiled.

Graeme Phillipson Golf NSW General Manager of Golf is thrilled with the addition of Gunn to the field.

“Players are taking note of what we have to offer. The NSW Open is being held on an excellent golf course. It’s a strong field, and Jimmy Gunn adds to the depth of talent on display.”

“Fans are in for a real treat,” Mr Phillipson said.
