Avondale Golf Club's June Song and Queensland's Jed Morgan have established four shot leads after two rounds of the NSW Junior Championships

Queenslander Jed Morgan is well on the way to defending his NSW Junior Championship title after a second consecutive sub-par round on the NSW Central Coast

Morgan backed up his opening round 67 at Toukley with a two-under par 69 at Shelly Beach in perfect conditions today.

Morgan carded six birdies in a solid performance and would have been further in front if not for a double-bogey on the par-four 16th hole. He leads New Zealand's Shaun Campbell by four strokes after the Kiwi posted a tidy 69 around the Shelly Beach layout.

Tomorrow's third round looks like being a cracker, with the two guns joined in the final group by New Zealand's Kazuma Kobori and first round leader, Ethan Chambers from The Australian Golf Club.

In the girl's championship, Avondale's June Song has opened up a four shot lead after a fantastic second round

The day could not have started any worse for Song, hitting her tee shot out of bounds from the 10th tee. The Avondale junior took a double but quickly regrouped, making three birdies on the bounce from the 11th hole. Song picked up another two birdies on the 16th and 18th to make the turn at -5 for the tournament.

On a day when many of her challengers went backwards, Song remained focussed, carding two birdies and two bogies on her back nine to set the clubhouse lead at five under par.

Australian Amateur champion Grace Kim is Song's nearest challenger four shots back at one under par after two rounds. Like her club mate Song, Kim also got off to a horrible start with a double bogey at the second followed by a triple bogey at the third hole. She steadied, however, playing the next 15 holes bogey-free, picking up three birdies to card a two-over par 76 and finish the day in second place. Queenslanders Cassie Porter and Jade Longstaff are a further shot back from Kim and will play alongside the NSW girls in the final group tomorrow.
