Jye flies at Avondale Amateur

LOCAL KNOWLEDGE: Jye Pickin led after the first round of the Avondale Amateur

Jye Pickin has used a bit of local knowledge to take the first round lead at the 2019 Avondale Amateur.

Pickin, the NSW boys' team captain and current Avondale club champion, was out in the first group of the day and used the perfect conditions to craft a handy five-under-par 66. His round included seven birdies, with his only blemishes coming on the 3rd and 16th holes.

A shot back sits the trio of Thomas Heaton of The Australian Golf Club, and Victorians Andre Lautee and Aiden Didone.

Heaton’s round was by far the best of the afternoon scores with gusty winds playing havoc on the late starters.

In the women’s division, there is a three-way tie at the top of the leaderboard at one under par.

England’s Emily Toy, who took out the women’s 36 hole strokeplay at last week’s NSW Amateur, Queenslander Hye Park, and Korea’s Seunghul Bong hold a two-shot lead over another trio of golfers, including local favourite Grace Kim, of Avondale, 2019 Master of the Amateurs Champion, Stephanie Kyriacou, and Kumkang Park, of Korea.

The second round is under way with the leading players on the course.
