The Hunter Valley’s Corey Lamb has taken out the Australian Schoolboy’s Championship in a thrilling playoff at The Grange Golf Club in Adelaide, South Australia.

Over 70 players from across Australian took part in the 36 hole event which boasts an honour roll that includes names like Jason Day, Steve Elkington, and Geoff Ogilvy as past champions.

Lamb carded rounds of five-under-par 67 and three-over par 75 for a two-under-par 142 total to finish in a tie with Western Australia’s Jordan Jung. The St Joseph’s Lochinvar High School student grabbed the title with a gutsy par on the second playoff hole.

“I felt pretty good out there. I had an eagle on the seventh in the morning,” Lamb said.

Lamb, who has been playing for eight years, has impressed many and already has a couple of wins under his belt this year including the Callaway International at Cypress Lakes and the South Coast Junior Masters.

I’ve been playing pretty good,” he smiled.

January is shaping up as a big month for the plus one marker with tournaments in three states already in his itinerary.

“I’m playing the Harvey Norman Week of Golf, followed by the South Australian Junior Masters. I’ll play the Australian Amateur in Perth then the NSW Amateur in Canberra.”

Lamb is also hoping to break into Concord Golf Club’s Major Pennant team next year.

“I’m hoping to play Major Pennant next year, but it’s a pretty good team at Concord,” he added.

As for a career in the sport, Lamb’s mind is firmly fixed.

“Something in golf. Hopefully, I can make it as a pro,” he smiled.
