Little joy for Josh at US Junior

Canberra's Josh Armstrong has been eliminated from the US Junior Amateur overnight, going down to America Trent Phillips, 3&1.

Armstrong struggled with a misbehaving putter all day and fell behind in the march early. He managed to claw his way back into the contest, winning three straight holes from the 11th to the 13th. However, his opponent bounced back with wins on 15, 16, and the 17th to close out the match.

"I started a little slow and struggled a little with the flat stick today," Armstrong said.

Although disappointed, the 17-year-old still has a busy schedule of events in front of him, beginning with US amateur qualifying this weekend in Wisconsin.

"It's two spots from 80," he said.

Following US AM qualifying, Armstrong has starts in the Western Amateur, the Canadian Amateur, hopefully, the US Amateur or the British Boys and the then Junior Players Championship.

Also on his mind is making the team for the Internationals for the first junior Presidents Cup, which will take place in Late September at Plainfield Country Club in Edison, New Jersey.

"At the moment I'm ranked 8th I think and the top 10 are automatic picks."
