Dylan Perry has bounced back from the disappointment of his loss in the final of The Amateur Championship by carding a six-under par 66 in the first round of the European Amateur Championship at Walton Heath, England.

The 22-year-old from the Vintage Golf Club in the Hunter Valley didn't get off to the fastest start with a pair of bogeys to begin his round. However, he settled down and added three birdies on the front nine to turn at one-under par.

Things took off on the back-nine. Perry grabbed back- to-back birdies on 13 and 14, before making a superb eagle three on the par-five 16th. He finished his round in dramatic style with a birdie on the last.

Perry, whose World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) climbed to a career-high 26th after his performance last week, was happy with his effort.

"Yeah, It felt good today, I just stayed patient," Perry said. "The course is playing a little softer from all the rain."

"I"m looking forward to the next three days, and see what happens." He said.

Six Australians in the field at Walton Heath this week. Western Australian Kiran Day posted a one under par 71, Min Woo Lee posted an even-par round of 72, while Ben Ferguson finished at 1-over par.  Canberra's Josh Armstrong carded a a 5-over par 77, while Haydn Barron finished with a 7-over par 79.
