Queensland amputee champs tee off

Queensland Amputee Open
Queensland Amputee Open leader Shane Luke (NSW) with Stephen Prior (NSW).

New South Wales duo Shane Luke and Sue Nelson lead the way after the first round of the 2017 Queensland Amputee Open.

Luke endured a slow start, but a solid even-par back nine got Luke back in the clubhouse with a two-over-par 74 in benign conditions around the championship Colonial layout on the Gold Coast.

It’s the first hit-out after a knee injury forced Luke off the course three weeks ago.

“I’ve been resting and doing my absolute best just to get to the first tee, so I’ll take two over and do my best to improve on that tomorrow.” Luke said

"I’ve been playing great, recently getting to +1 (GA handicap), so this injury couldn’t have come at a worse time.”

Sue Nelson leads from Kathleen Tanner (NSW) in the nett event with a solid one-over-par round of 75 around what can be a challenging layout off the women’s tees.

The solid start from Nelson puts her in a great position to make it two from two after a win in the nett event in February in the 2017 Australian Amputee Open.

Both Luke and Nelson are climbing the European rankings for golfers with disability after the European Disabled Golf Association approved the Queensland and NSW Amputee Open’s as ranking events.

Entries are now open for the 2017 NSW Amputee Open to be played at the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort, August 12-13.
