Aron Price has vivid memories of his 2013 NSW Open victory at Castle Hill Country Club for plenty of reasons.

“When I won a few years ago, it was satisfying to know I had won an event that had a lot of history, and one in which I had my own great memories,” he said.

A proud New South Welshman, it was his first victory in almost five years on tour and his maiden win on home soil.

“I caddied in the NSW Open when I was 12. It was the first event I was inside the ropes. If I didn't caddy in that event, who knows if my passion would have grown for the game as it did,” the US based Australian said.

Making the occasion even more special for the former Kareela and Cronulla junior was having his Dad, Ray, on the bag for that week.

“It was great to win with my old man on the bag. It was a fun last day with him caddying for me as well as Steve Bowditch having his dad caddying.”

“It felt like our junior days.”

Price started the rain-affected event with matching rounds of 66 before carding a four-under-par 68 on Saturday. He finished the tournament off with a steady two-under par 70 final round to win the championship by four shots.

The win in 2013 proved to a relieved Price that he still had the game to win big tournaments.

Price told the media after his victory: "At any level, a four-round win is a great feeling. Winning is winning."

“It's like; ‘you know what? What I am doing is the right thing, I am on the right path.”

As for this year’s Championship, the 35 year old Price is confident about his chances and looking forward to the challenge. He has already managed to fit in a practice round at Twin Creeks and likes the Graham Marsh designed layout.

“I played Twin Creeks just over a month ago. It's a great track and I love the design. I am really looking forward to playing,” he smiled.
