Lady golfers from across the State will descend on Horizons Golf Resort next week for the 2017 Golf NSW Women’s Medal Competition Final.

Competitors from afar afield as Pambula/Merimbula, Murwillumbah, the ACT, Dubbo, Orange, Wagga and Temora will take part across three divisions in the 18-hole final.

Six qualifying medal rounds were conducted by participating clubs across right across the state. The player with the best three nett aggregate score at each club went to a district final, and from the district final, the State finalists were decided.

Golf NSW Events Manager Olivia Wilson said the Medal is an extremely popular event on the Golf NSW Calendar.

“Over 7000 ladies began the Medal Competition back in January and it ran until October,”

“200 clubs took part this year and the number of participants continues to grow,” she said.

Massey Park Golf Club’s Sharon Scarr, who won the Medal Final at Stonecutters Ridge Golf Club in 2016, is back to defend her crown after qualifying again this year.

“I was surprised to win last year. It was a 40-degree day, so yes, I didn’t expect to win last year at all,

“I’m hoping to play well, I’m playing off three shots less this year. It might be a bit tougher, but I’m certainly going to try,

“Hopefully, I can do myself and the club proud,” Ms Scarr said.

Ms Scarr is looking forward to Port Stephens and is keen to take in the picturesque destination. She visited Nelson’s Bay a couple of years ago and expects to get in a bit of sight-seeing around the area after golf next week.

“I’ve heard Horizons is a wonderful course. I haven’t played there before so it should be interesting, but I manage my way around the course pretty well,” she said.

“It’s a very nice place. The whole area is very nice.

“We are going have a bit of a look around the area after the game and possibly take a group up from Massey Park up to have our weekend away there,” she smiled.
