Travis Smyth has finished fourth in the Porter Cup

St. Michael's Golf Club’s Travis Smyth fought hard but came up empty-handed in fourth place overnight after in the final round of the Porter Cup in Buffalo New York.

The 22-year old could only manage an even par round of 70 at Niagara Falls Country club as his opponent, and his final-round playing partner, New York native Brandon Wu, carded the low score of the tournament, a six-under par 64 to win by three shots.

"I was happy to be in contention, but disappointed I didn't bring my A game," Smyth said.

Defending Champion, Avondale's Harrison Endycott, carded a three-over par 73 to finish in a tie for 13th, while Newcastle's Blake Windred, playing in his first Porter Cup, finished in 23rd place.

The Vintage's Dylan Perry had little luck over the weekend, finishing in 13th place after back to back scores of 73 at the Southern Amateur at The Country Club of North Carolina. US-Based Australian junior Karl Vilips took out the prestigious title, closing with a five-under-par 67 to win by a shot.
