Kevin Yuan is firing on all cylinders at Stonecutters Ridge

Kevin Yuan might be one of the smaller players in this year’s NSW Open field in terms of stature, but the talented amateur’s game is standing tall this morning at Stonecutters Ridge with the hottest round of the morning  on day two.

The 19-year-old member of the Australian Golf Club carded three birdies and an eagle on his front nine (starting at the 10th), to make the turn at -7, and tied for ninth behind new leader, Adam Blyth from Queensland at -11.

Blyth has continued his good form from yesterday with a bogey-free front nine, which yielded four birdies including a six footer on the difficult par-3 sixth.

Some of the big names in Australian golf have also started their charge, with two-time Australian Open champion Peter Lonard at -3 this morning to be -7 for the tournament. Matthew Giles, Lucas Herbert, Peter O’Malley all -3 for the round, as well as Peter Fowler who at one stage was four-under for the round. West Australian Michael SIm is currently -4 for the round and now sitting at -6 for the Championship.

Scoring is expected to get even hotter throughout the day with overnight  leader Brett Coletta due to tee of at 12.45pm.

The cut is hovering at -2 and conditions are still excellent for scoring, with light winds and humidity expected to last throughout the day at Stonecutters Ridge, which is right in the heart of Sydney’s western suburbs.

Coletta, the 20-year-old Victorian amateur, is chasing a unique slice of history this week, trying to become the first player since Greg Norman in 1986 to complete the Qld Open and NSW Open double.
