Last chance at Bathurst for NSW Senior Open

Bathurst Open
This week is the final chance to grab a place in the NSW Senior Open

This weekend’s Bathurst Open marks the last chance to qualify for the NSW Senior Open Golf Championship at Thurgoona Golf and Country Club next month.

230 golfers from all across the State are expected to decend on the historic town to compete in the 36 hole event.

General Manager of Bathurst Golf Club, Brad Constable, said the course was in fantastic condition despite only just coming out of one of the coldest winters on record.

“With the rain we had over the V8 weekend, the course is spectacular, the greens are going to blow people away, they are phenomenal,” he said.

When pressed about a potential tournament favourite, Mr Constable was hard pressed to choose a stand-out.

“Throw a dart at a board,” he laughed.

“There are 40 players on scratch or better. We have never seen this quality.”

“It’s a bit hard to narrow it down to one, to tell the truth.”

Mr Constable singled out a couple of local chances whom he felt might benefit from their local knowledge.

“The Club’s Vice Captain Darren Bruce been in good form, and Darrell Bourke is a former club champ and a good chance in the over 50’s,” Mr Constable said.

22 amateur golfers have already qualified for the 54 hole event to be played at Thurgoona Golf and Country Club from Novembver 2- 4. Some of the names include former NSW State representative Lester Peterson of Bardwell Valley, Grahame Stinson of the Grange, and Thurgoona’s own Jason Cawthray, who will no doubt be hoping his home course knowledge will be a big advantage.
